Indian High Commissioner pays first visit to LIOC Trincomalee Terminal

On his maiden visit to Lanka IOC’s Trincomalee Oil Terminal on 14 March, High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka Gopal Baglay was briefed about various activities and initiatives of the Lanka IOC. Lanka IOC accorded a warm welcome to the High Commissioner and delivered a presentation on the oil sector in Sri Lanka including the history and development of Trincomalee oil tank farms. 

The High Commissioner inaugurated a 22 KL finished lube tank storage of LIOC’s Lube Blending plant and appreciated the commitment of Lanka IOC in fulfilling the energy as well as petrochemical requirements of Sri Lanka. The High Commissioner also toured the ongoing construction work of a grease plant by the LIOC, which is going to be the first of its kind in Sri Lanka. This plant will have the capability of catering to the entire grease demand of Sri Lanka through production in the country, which will be in line with the Government’s policy document – Vistas on Prosperity and Splendour. 

The High Commissioner visited the Upper and Lower Tank Farms at Trincomalee. He appreciated development of LTF by Lanka IOC with its own investment that has contributed to the Sri Lankan economy for more than a decade. On the visit to the Upper Tank Farm, the High Commissioner was briefed in detail about the current status and the possibilities regarding its usage and development. 

The High Commissioner also participated in a tree planting ceremony in the terminal premises, which provided encouragement to LIOC’s green initiatives and its adherence to the highest level of environmental safety. The High Commissioner expressed admiration for the eco-friendly initiatives of Lanka IOC in preserving flora and fauna of the area.

During this visit the High Commissioner was accompanied by Banu Prakash Counsellor (Political and Development Cooperation), Dr. Rakesh Pandey, Head of Economic and Commercial Wing and other senior officials from the High Commission of India. 

The High Commissioner concluded his two-hour visit to facilities with highly motivating and encouraging remarks for Lanka IOC in the Visitors’ Book.
