The Institute of Analytics (IoA), the UK-based professional body for analytics and data science professionals last week launched its operations in Sri Lanka.
IoA is a not-for-profit organisation that is committed to advancing the study, application and standing of analytics and data science in society and we exist to promote greater awareness, understanding and innovation in analytics.
At its launch, IoA recognised two partners Sri Lanka – the University of Moratuwa for their Bachelor of Business Science (Business Analytics) degree program, and Imperial College of Business Studies, on their BA Hons. (International Business and Finance) degree program affiliated with the University of West of Scotland. These program and those in the future ranging from foundational concepts to specialised domains, will provide students with hands-on experience and practical exposure to real-world challenges.
“You need to nurture a thriving analytics ecosystem in Sri Lanka,” said Institute of Analytics Director of Education Dr. Clair Walsh, the visionary behind the institute.
UGC Sri Lanka Chairman Senior Professor Sampath Amaratunga, attended the launch as the Chief Guest. He said “Sri Lanka witnessed a momentous occasion as it marked a significant milestone in the country’s journey towards harnessing the power of data analytics to drive innovation, growth, and societal progress”.
Dr. Waish highlighted the institute’s dedication to inclusivity and diversity. “My gratitude to the University academics, Professional bodies and partners, and the Imperial College for their unwavering support in making this ambitious endeavour a reality,” she added.
The Institute of Analytics UK aims to establish itself as a centre of excellence, providing world-class education, research, and industry collaboration opportunities in the field of analytics. With a focus on cultivating talent and promoting data-driven decision-making, the institute is poised to make a lasting impact on Sri Lanka’s economic and social development.
The launch event also served as a platform for networking and collaboration. University academia and potential partners and representatives from academic institutions had the opportunity to engage with the institute’s leadership team, fostering partnerships that will drive innovation and create new opportunities for growth.

The Institute’s Head of Membership Lara Millmow also spoke at the launch attended by a large gathering of distinguished guests.
