Institute of Chartered Corporate Secretaries makes courtesy call on Registrar General of Companies

The Institute of Chartered Corporate Secretaries of Sri Lanka (ICCSSL) made a courtesy call on the Registrar General of Companies Sanjeewa Dissanayake. 

The ICCSSL offered its fullest support to the Department of the Registrar of Companies (RoC) whilst RoC is in the midst of aligning an 80-year-old manual system to a digital platform. It was the common understanding that the eRoC system is not just an IT system but holistically the merging of company law and secretarial practice of companies employing state-of-the-art technology to contribute to the ease of doing business in Sri Lanka.

The Registrar General of Companies Sanjeewa Dissanayake thanked the ICCSSL for offering its support and invited feedback and constructive criticism from the community of company secretaries which will support the RoC’s endeavours to make the eRoC a fully-fledged state-of-the-art system and overcome the teething problems and hiccups faced at the moment since its transition 12 months ago which has been quite an achievement. 

Deputy President/Past President S. Sudarshan gave a brief overview of the institute which originated as branch of The Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators of the United Kingdom, which was set up as a Guarantee company in Sri Lanka to conduct the UK examinations and thereafter the members took the initiative to conduct examinations in Sri Lanka with a vast syllabus covering Company Secretarial Practice, Company Law and the regulatory framework of Sri Lanka. 

The ICCSSL was represented by Hemali Ellawala (President), Helen de Silva (Immediate Past President), S. Sudarshan (Deputy President/Past President), Ishani Liyanage (Vice President), Kishan Kuruppu (Past President) and members of the Board Nisha Najumudeen, Dilrukshi Wiratunga, Geredene Suares and Priyadarshana Wetthasinghe.
