HRD Antwerp (Diamond High Council), Europe’s leading authority in diamond grading, education and equipment has commenced Diamond Grading and Identification programs in Sri Lanka together with the International Gemological Academy (IGA) and the next program will be started on 9 October at the IGA premises in Colombo 3.

HRD Antwerp draws on 570 years of experience passed down through Belgium’s diamond trade in Antwerp. An HRD Antwerp diamond grading report represents the hallmark of authentic European quality and allows any consumer to purchase diamonds in full confidence. International Gemological Academy was established in this paradise island of gems because Sri Lanka (formally ‘Ceylon’) is the ancient international centre in the gem industry and has the highest concentration of gem varieties on Earth. IGA was found by Consultant Gemmologist Hirosha Yahampath to conduct gemmology courses, consultancy and research in the gem and jewellery industry. IGA Gem Conference is an annual event for those in the gem and jewellery industry to update the knowledge from international and local experts and to create the fellowship among the gem enthusiasts.

Launching of this joint program will give an opportunity for Sri Lankans to obtain an internationally recognised training and qualification in diamond studies in Sri Lanka. Entrepreneurs in the jewellery industry will be able to reach higher levels in the international market with high quality products and Sri Lankan youth will be able to enter the global jewellery industry with international standard qualifications.
