JASTECA 34th AGM with Japanese Ambassador as Chief Guest on Friday

The Japan Sri Lanka Technical & Cultural Association (JASTECA), which is Sri Lanka’s alumni association of past trainees of Japan’s Association for Overseas Technical Corporation and Sustainable Partnerships (AOTS) and its predecessor, is the foremost organisation that has been a catalyst in transferring Japanese technology and Japanese management systems to Sri Lanka from Japan. With over 3,000 members, many of who are in the technical fields, the Association will conduct its 34th AGM on Friday, 25 September at the Galadari Hotel.

Being one of 73 societies in 44 countries in AOTS’s network of alumni societies in the Asia, Africa, Eastern Europe and Latin America, JASTECA of Sri Lanka is considered one of the best managed in terms of activities and governance.

Having originated in 1986, succeeding from the Asia Cultural Association, JASTECA has contributed to the developments efforts of Sri Lanka in various forms such as:

 

  • Inviting experts from Japan to conduct seminars on quality management, human resource management, productivity techniques and other unique Japanese techniques in Sri Lanka
  • Conducting long term workshops on productivity improvement for particular industries such as the apparel industry, agricultural machinery etc.
  • Facilitating Sri Lankan managerial and technical level persons to undergo training in Japan
  • Organising specialised management courses for groups of Sri Lankan entrepreneurs, managers, and conducting top management fora in Japan
  • Organising the 5S and CSR award scheme to promote the implementation of 5S in Sri Lanka

 

JASTECA and AOTS has recently introduced a new program called “Experience Japan” for young persons to experience Japan chaperoned by a parent.

JASTECA also conducts Japanese Language classes and conducts the Entrance Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students (EJU) examination on behalf of Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO) and the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) examination on behalf of Japan Foundation.

Currently due to the COVID-19 epidemic, only video conference webinars are being arranged. In fact, several free-of-charge webinars have already been conducted, and very soon fee-levying webinars will be conducted.

The Annual General Meeting to be held on Friday, 25 September at the Galadari Hotel will be graced by Ambassador for Japan in Sri Lanka Akira Sugiyama and the keynote address will be delivered by Professor Buddhi Marambe of Department of Crop Science Faculty of Agriculture, University of Peradeniya on the topic “Modern Trends in Production Management”. At the conclusion of the AGM there will be an Ikebana demonstration by Shiromi Soosaipillai.
