Japan-funded workshop by ITC unlock high potential of Sri Lanka’s exports

Embassy of Japan in Sri Lanka Minister/Deputy Chief of Mission Kamoshida Naoaki on 24 February addressed attendees at a workshop aimed at expanding Sri Lanka’s exports to Japan.

The event is part of the project entitled “Support Sri Lanka to Increase Its Exports to Japan”, which is funded by the Government of Japan and implemented by the International Trade Centre (ITC).

It was attended by representatives of the Sri Lanka Export Development Board (EDB), the Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Sri Lanka, the Japan External Trade Organisation, Japan International Cooperation Agency as well as Japanese and Sri Lankan private companies. During the event, experiences and information were shared among Sri Lankan exporters and Japanese participants.

In his remarks, Kamoshida emphasised the importance of trade and investment for Sri Lanka’s sustainable development and suggested that there are more opportunities Sri Lankan exporters could explore in the Japanese market. He also highlighted Japan’s continued support to assist Sri Lanka in enhancing its export capabilities, particularly in promoting spice exports and strengthening capacity of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs). Kamoshida highlighted Japan’s ongoing contributions to Sri Lanka’s tourism, renewable energy, and infrastructure, including the resumption of a major terminal expansion project at Bandaranaike International Airport.

Japan remains dedicated to supporting Sri Lanka’s efforts for sustainable development. It is hoped that the event will lead to increased exports to Japan and foreign investment, further strengthening the bilateral relationship between Japan and Sri Lanka.
