KPMG Kandy branch celebrates 50 years of service

KPMG’s Kandy branch celebrated its 50th anniversary at the Earl’s Regency, Kandy recently along with clients, partners, former partners, past employees and well-wishers. 

Addressing the gathering, the firm’s Managing Partner and Chief Guest at the event, Reyaz Mihular, stated: “The branch has been successfully fulfilling a critical role in the Central Province, working shoulder-to-shoulder with clients in the region to help them meet their most critical challenges and capitalise on their biggest opportunities. I am very proud of how our people bring our purpose and importance of the work we do to life every single day.”

KPMG in Sri Lanka, which counts 120 years of service in the country, being one of the oldest professional service firms, established its Kandy branch in 1967 under the patronage of N.G.P. Panditharatne, with 15 employees. 

The branch’s services include an assurance service such as statutory audits as well as compilation engagements and also tax compliance and advisory services across sectors such as manufacturing, international trading, finance, insurance, microfinance, construction, leisure, education, retail, agriculture and livestock, distributors and also NGOs.

Presenting the welcome address, Rajesh Rajan, partner in charge of the KPMG Kandy branch, stated: “I am pleased to be a part of the extraordinary journey of KPMG’s Kandy branch. Our people and our clients are at the very heart of the branch and have been there throughout, working shoulder-to-shoulder as a team.”

The firm took the opportunity to recognise staff members who have made outstanding contributions to the firm, especially T.M. Casiechetty, who completed 40 years of service in the branch and received a token of appreciation from staff partner Yohan Perera.

Commenting on this achievement, former Partner of the branch and current Executive Director of Continental Insurance, Mr. Asoka Abeyewardenestated “It’s with pleasure and pride that I grace this special occasion and celebrate the success the branch as achieved. I wish KPMG all the very best as it continues in its journey as a forward looking firm, driven to upholding ethics and good values, while providing professional services to clients and contributing to the wider community.”

The event, which was attended by over 200 well-wishers, enjoyed the evening with entertainment performed by staff member of the branch. In conclusion, the Branch Manager, Lakshmi Sooriyabandara thanked clients, past and present Partners and staff members for their valuable support ad contribution through the years.
