The apex body of the confectionery manufacturers in Sri Lanka, Lanka Confectionery Manufacturers Association (LCMA) has extended its heartfelt congratulations to President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and the newly appointed Cabinet Ministers.
In a statement, the association pledged its fullest support towards uplifting the local confectionery industry.
“Considering the local economy’s disorientation and the many challenges faced in the past years, LCMA is eagerly looking forward to playing a significant part in developing and implementing the industry and hope to play a major role in the growth of the industry as well as in the growth of Sri Lanka,” LCMA President S.M.D. Suriyakumara said.
He also said that LCMA is keen on working closely with the new Government to expand the horizons of the local confectionery manufacturing industry to the export markets.
LCMA represents the majority of confectionery and biscuit manufacturers of Sri Lanka with an estimated annual industry turnover of around Rs. 150 billion with over 35% of domestic value addition and an export income exceeding $ 30 million per annum.
The confectionery industry, which is 100% Sri Lankan owned, has almost 70 years of branded history whilst providing direct employment for nearly 50,000 people and another 500,000 people indirectly via country wide supply chains, currently. Moreover, the sector has invested over Rs. 10 billion in innovations, infrastructure development and technology transfers, over the last decade.
