The launch of the Lanka QR mobile payment app for toll payments at expressway exits was held at the Kottawa Interchange of the Southern Expressway on Tuesday under the patronage of Highways Minister Johnston Fernando and Youth and Sports Minister Namal Rajapaksa.
This Lanka QR mobile payment application can be used from yesterday instead of Manual Toll Collection (MTC) at the expressway exit gates.
The Lanka QR mobile payment application is currently used only on the Southern Expressway and will be available on other expressways in the future.
Anyone with this payment app will be able to use this app to pay their expressway fare without having to pay by cash. All they need to do is submit the ticket they received at the start of the journey to the exit gate at the destination and scan the relevant application code for payment.
The benefits of this new facility include preventing the spread of COVID-19 by reducing the exchange of cash, moving towards a digitalised society, and reducing heavy traffic during office hours near the exit gates of highways.
Central Bank Governor Ajith Nivard Cabraal, Secretary to the Ministry of Highways, and officials of the Road Development Authority were also present at the occasion.
