  • Annual demand at 6 m and all imported, says Dayasiri

Batik, Handloom, Fabric and Local Apparel Products State Minister Dayasiri Jayasekara has assured President Gotabaya Rajapaksa that his Ministry is ready to locally produce the National and Buddhist Flags of the country.

He made these remarks while handing over a few batik designed samples of the National Flag.  In view of the forthcoming National Day celebrations in February, Jayasekara has instructed local handloom and power loom weavers to supply the demand in full, using domestic resources and expertise.

The Minister also tweeted: “Measures taken to strengthen local manufactures and reduce importation have been our key focus and we will continue, despite major initiatives undertaken by the import fabric mafia to sabotage our initiatives.”

Sri Lanka’s annual demand for National Flags is over six million and until recently the demand was met by importing the requirement.
