As an expansion to its business in Sri Lanka, MAN Energy Solutions SE – a leading solutions provider for the maritime, power and industrial sectors – recently inaugurated a state-of-the-art workshop in Kelaniya.
This new development is a continuation of the company’s global strategy to move closer to its customers; the company previously opened an office in Colombo on Flower Road in 2013. At a ceremony to mark the event, Sri Lanka’s Ports and Shipping Minister Rohitha Abeygunawardhana, and German Ambassador Holger Seubert, attended as chief guests.
The workshop will function as a central service point for MAN’s marine and power customers in Sri Lanka and the Maldives. MAN engineers in Sri Lanka are trained in various MAN two-stroke and four-stroke engine overhauls but are also capable of servicing third-party machinery. They are also authorised to service and overhaul Woodward speed governors as well as Regulateurs Europa, Yanmar, RHD and various other types of governors.
Furthermore, MAN also represents Scania (Industrial and Marine) and DESMI pumping systems in the Sri Lankan and Maldivian markets. The workshop is conveniently located close to highway entrances and easily accessible from Colombo, Galle and Hambanthota sea ports.
Ambassador Holger Seubert said: “Today we are welcoming a new workshop from a German company to Sri Lanka. MAN Energy Solutions has a proud history of 250 years and is a world market leader in advanced, green engineering solutions in the marine, energy and industrial sectors.
MAN Energy Solutions enables partners to exploit a multitude of so-called, ‘future fuels‘, i.e. climate-neutral fuels such as green methanol or hydrogen. MAN has come to Sri Lanka to support the country’s climate protection efforts and to make its customers fit for a green future. By reducing harmful emissions and aiming for C02 neutrality, MAN’s partners will not have to be afraid of stricter environmental regulations in the future.”
MAN Energy Solutions Lanka Managing Director Ruwan Dassanayake said: “I believe that being closer to our customers and having the right competencies is what is needed right now, especially during the pandemic. The trust placed in MAN Energy Solutions by our customers also encouraged us to make this expansion.”
AHK Sri Lanka Chief Delegate Alexandra Voss, also attended the opening ceremony and stated: “German companies have always been reliable and sustainable partners for Sri Lanka. Today’s opening of the MAN workshop is another indication of the potential and the trust German companies have towards Sri Lanka. As the Chief Representative of the Delegation of German Industries and Commerce in Sri Lanka, I am convinced that the 250-plus years of engineering expertise of MAN Energy Solution will be beneficial for the Sri Lankan marine, energy and industrial sectors in the future. As the official representative of German business relations, AHK Sri Lanka will remain committed to fair business and offers the ideal platform to create business opportunities for both Sri Lankan and German companies in both directions.”
Head of Marine and Head of PrimeServ Marine and Power Middle-East/Africa Waldemar Wiesner said: “MAN Energy Solutions has identified Sri Lanka as a strategic market and opening this workshop is a milestone in our decentralisation strategy of getting closer to our clients and providing them with excellent services. Therefore, we have committed to investing in this workshop and employing additional employees, despite this challenging time of pandemic.”
