Malé ground vehicle collides with parked SriLankan flight

  • National carrier says minor structural damage occurred to the tail section of the aircraft
  • Engineering team based in Malé currently working around the clock to repair aircraft to service

SriLankan Airlines yesterday announced that flight UL116, which was parked at the Malé International Airport, was damaged when a ground support vehicle collided with the aircraft.

Minor structural damage occurred to the tail section (stabiliser) of the aircraft due to the incident, said SriLankan Airlines issuing a statement.

“The SriLankan Airlines Engineering team based at the Malé International Airport is currently working around the clock to replace the affected parts and return the aircraft to service,” said the national carrier.

According to reports, the aircraft was a narrow body A320neo. The plane was operating flight UL115, departing Colombo at 13:13 local time. It arrived in Malé after a flight time of one hour and nine minutes. The aircraft was scheduled to operate the return flight UL116, departing at 15:05.
