Manil Jayesinghe takes over reins of CA Sri Lanka as new President

A prominent figure in the Sri Lankan accounting fraternity, Manil Jayesinghe was ceremoniously inducted as the 25th President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (CA Sri Lanka) 23 January at a gala event held at the Shangri-La Hotel, Colombo. 

Jayesinghe was formally inducted by CA Sri Lanka outgoing President Jagath Perera, amidst a gathering of distinguished invitees including international accounting leaders, Chartered Accountants, business and industry leaders, regulatory heads as well as policymakers.

The ceremony was held under the patronage of global organisation of the accounting profession International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) President Dr. In-Ki Joo, who graced the event as the Chief Guest.

A highly respected Chartered Accountant who has extensively contributed to the accountancy profession at a local, regional and international level, Jayesinghe brings more than 37 years of extensive experience to the table. At present, he serves as the Head of Assurance/Senior Partner, Professional Practice Director, in charge of Banking and Financial Services Practice at Ernst & Young Sri Lanka.

Jayesinghe has been in the Council of CA Sri Lanka since 2013 and was the Vice President of the Institute from 2018/2019. At present, he serves as the incumbent Chairman of the Statutory Accounting Standards Committee and as a Member of the Statutory Auditing Committee apart from holding membership in many other committees of CA Sri Lanka.  

He is also the current Chair of the Accounting Standards Committee of the South Asian Federation of Accountants (SAFA) and has served as a Board Member for the International Accounting Education Standards Board (IAESB) of IFAC. At present, he is a Consultant to several Audit Committees of Listed Companies.

An old boy of St. Joseph’s College, Jayesinghe is a Fellow Member of CA Sri Lanka and the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (UK), and a member of the Chartered Institute of Public Finance & Accountancy (CIPFA, London). 

Meanwhile, Sanjaya Bandara was elected as the Vice President of CA Sri Lanka. He is the Partner of B.R. De Silva & Co, Chartered Accountants and counts over 20 years of experience in practice. At present, Bandara serves as a Board Member of the Confederation of Asian and Pacific Accountants (CAPA). 

He is a Fellow Member of CA Sri Lanka and holds a B.Sc. Accountancy Special Degree from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, and an MBA from the University of Colombo. Bandara has chaired several committees of CA Sri Lanka including the Education Committee, Annual Reports Award Committee and Member Relations Committee.
