Labour and Foreign Employment Minister Manusha Nanayakkara yesterday told the National Labour Advisory Council (NLAC) that a summary of the proposals received so far for a new unified labour law system will be made public next week.
Chairing the meeting of NLAC the Minister stated the public consultation for obtaining proposals for the preparation of a new labour law system is held weekly in the Ministry Auditorium and the preparation of the draft of a legislative proposal will be initiated after presenting the summary of the proposals received so far.
The Minister also said that the draft will be submitted to the NLAC. Nanayakkara pointed out the importance of convening the NLAC on a monthly basis.
The NLAC agreed to appoint a committee to look into the matter whether any sector has been mistakenly left out when appointing trade union representatives to NLAC. It also approved the appointment of a suitable female trade union representative.
