Sri Lanka’s tea crop in July has dipped marginally to 26.2 million kilos from 26.5 million kilos a year ago.
Citing Tea Board data, Asia Siyaka Commodities said High Growns recorded 5.8 million kilos against 5.9 million kilos last year. Mediums improved to 4.8 million kilos from 4.3 million kilos in July 2020. Low Growns recorded 15.6 million kilos compared with 16.3 million kilos a year ago.
Tea crop for the period January-July of 187.8 million kilos is about 20% higher than last year’s figure of 156.9 million kilos.
Asia Siyaka said to date Low Growns were at a healthy 112.6 million kilos higher by 22% on last year’s 92.3 million kilos. High Growns are up 14% from 37.3 to 42.4 million kilos this year. Mediums too fared better with gains of 20% from 27.4 million kilos to 32.8 million kilos.
