Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is one of the fastest growing sectors in Sri Lanka. This growth has increased the demand for skilled workers to meet the demands of the industry. Government support in addition to the burgeoning start-up ecosystem both suggest the demand will continue to grow in the future.
The IT industry is looking for employees with the necessary technical skills and knowledge to be an asset to their organisation and help them grow.
Bachelor of Information Technology (BIT) is an external degree which is taught through the open and distance learning model. It makes University of Moratuwa education accessible to students from all over the country. Students will be enrolled in a well-planned and meticulously executed degree program.
The BIT program is up to date with current technology and the course content is continuously improved with input from the industry. BIT graduates will be stepping into the workforce armed with the knowledge, skills, and attitude required to be a part of the fast-growing IT industry. Graduates from the BIT (external) degree program have gone on to have lucrative careers as software engineers, programs, and quality assurance engineers in the IT industry.
University of Moratuwa offers its BIT courses in a fully-fledged internet based online system, and therefore, students can study in the comfort of their own home, in addition to studying at the approved partner organisations.
The assessments, examinations and award of diplomas, higher diplomas and degrees are conducted and conferred by the University of Moratuwa.
The online system makes course material available for the students to follow on their own schedule, and provides portals to submit assessments and receive feedback. This has opened up a unique learner-centred education paradigm, where what matters most is the enthusiasm and dedication of the student. BIT provides a unique program with education that places the graduates at the very thresholds of technology and our strong relationship with the industry produces a readily employable graduate.
The entry requirements for BIT external is 3 passes or more for GCE A/L in any stream and at least “C” pass for GCE O/L Mathematics. Lateral entry enables students who have other approved qualifications to take a selected number of courses to obtain the degree.
A full waiver of fees is available for students who achieve 3As in GCE A/L in any stream. 50% waiver is available for students registered in an internal degree program of the University of Moratuwa and 25% waiver is available for students registered for a degree program in any other state university. Students are given the opportunity of obtaining the BIT (external) degree from the University of Moratuwa, for as little as Rs. 200,000 for the complete program (three years).
