At the 28th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the NCE held at the hotel Galadari on 14 March 2023, the NCE honoured its past presidents by presenting them with Honorary Life Membership Certificates. Jayantha Karunarathne the newly elected President of the Chamber stated: “Our past presidents have passionately provided their professional services to the NCE and year by year they have made sure that the Chamber reaches new heights and as a thank you we are awarding them a ‘Honorary Life Membership Certificate’.”
In 1986, the National Exporters Association (NEA) was established to support the exporters of Sri Lanka. In 1994 it was incorporated as the National Chamber of Exporters of Sri Lanka (NCE) becoming the only trade Chamber in Sri Lanka serving exclusively the export sector. The membership of the Chamber is open to all exporters of products & services and suppliers of products and services to the export industry. The NCE is the only private sector Chamber which exclusively serves Sri Lankan exporters and is the ‘Voice of the Exporter’. The Chamber has a membership of over 450 export-oriented companies covering all products and most services sectors, as well as service providers to exporters.
The NCE is committed to serving its members to fulfil their aspirations and expectations while adhering to the relevant statutory and regulatory requirements of Sri Lanka. This is achieved by continuously upgrading the ISO 9001: 2015 Quality Management System that has been awarded since 28 April 2016. Accordingly, the Chamber is committed to continuously developing policies, management & administrative systems, and processes. The Chamber periodically evaluates and introduces programs to professionally develop its employees.
The membership of the Chamber represents leading exporters of all product and service sectors in Sri Lanka. They range from different scales, large to small export-oriented enterprises. The Chamber’s services are primarily focused on its members to promote and sustain international market share and be global brand leaders. Due to this commitment and working towards achieving goals of the membership, the Chamber is nationally identified as the ‘Voice of the Exporter’.
This NCE has achieved national significance over the years since its inception in 1992. The NCE today is a professional Chamber and is recognised for its integrity, transparency, and high standards.
The NCE was founded by the late Deshabandu Patrick Amarasinghe. He is recognised and remembered by the Chamber members as their Founder President/President Emeritus of the NCE from 1986 to 2001.
