The National Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka hailed the victory of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna and appointment of Mahinda Rajapaksa as the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka, at the recently held General Election.

It is a necessity to have a strong Government where the Parliament and the Executive Presidency is working together in a united manner to make it a possibility to reach economic development through policy stability.

The efforts of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa in uplifting the micro and SME sector even during the COVID-19 period is well recognised and appreciated by the National Chamber. The recent emphasis placed on the Agricultural sector by the Government is also admirable. Downsizing the number of Cabinet Ministers and allocating State Ministers under the Cabinet Ministers is also appreciated by the National Chamber.

The National Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka, which comprises over 720 corporate sector companies and 1500 SMEs scattered throughout the country, believes the newly elected Government can now easily carry out development activities and improvements to the economy at large in all sectors of business through the massive mandate the people of Sri Lanka has placed in them.

The National Chamber has recently launched a digital platform to help SMEs and the corporate business sector to market their export items globally. FromSriLanka.com is the one-stop destination to source all Sri Lankan made products and services to the world market place.

The platform would include thousands of products and services suppliers across the country for over 50 major categories; from tea, rubber, coconut, spices and ayurvedic items to apparel, gemstones, and furniture, services such as software development to BPO solutions.

The National Chamber strongly believes that this platform would be instrumental in developing exports in search of much needed foreign currency for the country.

The NCCSL will always continue to work closely with all the progressive steps the new Government will implement.
