Plantation Industries Minister Navin Dissanayake recently met with US Ambassador Alaina B. Teplitz at the Ministry premises in Sethsiripaya, Battaramulla to discuss on the possibilities of further expanding Ceylon Tea market in the US.
During the lengthy meeting the Ambassador assured to provide financial assistance for a five-year project on the e-Land Registration as well as for other infrastructure development projects including road development.
The Minister also requested the US Ambassador to provide more such financial assistance for road development in Nuwara-Eliya, Matale and Uva Provincials.
The US Ambassador also stated that they are looking into the possibilities of providing solar panels for those who are working in the plantation sector, especially to those engaged in the tea industry.
In addition, the US Ambassador discussed on the challenges in the transportation sector and pointed out that that they hope to fund a planned project to reduce traffic congestion in Sri Lanka.
Moreover the Minister requested the Ambassador to provide more scholarships for Sri Lankan students from US universities, noting that they greatly help particularly in transferring technical knowledge.
Plantation Industries State Minister Vadivel Suresh, Plantation Industries Ministry Secretary J.A. Ranjith and other high ranking officials of the Ministry were also present at this discussion.
