The New Anthoney’s Group, one of Sri Lanka’s leading poultry producers making strides in environmental stewardship and sustainability, was recently recognised at Soy Connext, the Global US Soy Summit, held at the San Francisco Marriott Marquis from 19-21 August.

Organised by the US Soybean Export Council (USSEC), this year’s Soy Connext summit brought together over 700 participants from over 60 countries, with discussions ranging from current market development and future trends, US Soy farmer insights, nutrition science, food labelling and packaging, and supply chain and sustainability among others.

In July last year, the New Anthoney’s Group was awarded the ‘Sustainable US Soy’ and ‘Fed with Sustainable US Soy’ labels on their products, making them the first in the entire South Asian and Sub-Saharan Africa region to receive these awards. Following this benchmark, many others in the industry followed suit.

“Through extraordinary leadership and an impressive vision, New Anthoney’s has clearly demonstrated a first-mover advantage in the adoption of the ‘Fed with Sustainable US Soy’ label. Its utility has now been demonstrated and the USSEC wholeheartedly congratulates them and looks forward to working hand-in-hand with them, and many others, on the sustainable US Soy journey,” said USSEC South Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa Regional Director Kevin Roepke.

The labels are used to promote products containing soy verified by the US Soy Sustainability Assurance Protocol (SSAP), one of the first sustainability verification schemes developed by the USSEC. New Anthoney’s will also now be able to include its soy purchases’ carbon footprint on the SSAP certificate, which can be used in its carbon accounting.

Setting the tone for the rest of the industry and region, New Anthoney’s continues to stand strong as a foremost sustainable poultry producer. From sourcing sustainable US soy feeds through to adopting biodegradable packaging measures and many others, New Anthoney’s embraces sustainability in all aspects of its operations and supply chain. It is also the first poultry producer in Sri Lanka to obtain the FSSC 22000 certification.

New Anthoney’s’ continued loyalty sourcing US Soy is yet another example of the crucial importance it places on providing the highest quality produce to its customers. Research continues to show that soy from the US is a premium product that increases operational efficiencies for livestock farms, feed mills, and oil crushers, introduces better flavour profiles in the soy foods sector, and exemplifies on-farm stewardship and conservation efforts, giving it the lowest carbon footprint.
