Pothotuwa Tea Factory

Pothotuwa Tea Factory achieved an all-time record price of Rs. 2,100 for a Low Grown OP1 grade, surpassing the previous record of Rs. 2,050 set by the Dellawa Tea Processing Centre, which is also integrated to Pothotuwa Tea Company Ltd., at the weekly tea Auctions held on 28-29 January. This line of tea was purchased by M/s. Tea Tang Ltd. and marketed by M/s. Forbes & Walker Tea Brokers Ltd. who exclusively market teas of both Pothotuwa and Dellawa.

This factory established in 1989 is situated in Beralapanathara, in the Deniyaya agro-climatic district at an elevation of 1,580 feet above sea level. Pothotuwa Tea Factory has an annual production of approximately 1M/Kgs, and is Rain Forest Alliance and Ethical Tea Partnership certified. The factory is owned and managed by distinguished tea producer Anil Alwis, whose passion for tea manufacture has alleviated its product and process to maintain the highest standards, which accounts for Pothotuwa teas consistently being sold at premium prices amongst factories selling commercial quantities in the Low Grown Region and being ranked No. 1 in 2019.

Alwis, over the years, has achieved many record prices at tea auctions, and won several local and international awards for his product quality. He is also the past President of the Private Tea Factory Owners Association and has served on many industry committees.
