Power and Energy Minister update development agencies on revamping CEB

Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera has updated the development agencies on the plans and progress of the restructuring process of the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB).

The discussion was on Thursday between heads and representatives of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the World Bank, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), USAID, the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the Department of External Resources, the National Planning Department and members of the reforms committee.

Taking to Twitter, the Minister noted that the restructuring of CEB is done with the assistance of the development agencies.

Minister Wijesekera said Sri Lanka requested technical and financial assistance from the development agencies to obtain services from international and domestic experts in the energy, finance and legal sectors.

The expert assistance will support to fulfil of the objectives of the unbundling process, energy and financial audits, including Human Resources Management, Purchasing Power Parity (PPP) models, legal drafting, research work, integrating renewable energy, carbon credits, communication platform and other work related to reforms and integrating renewable energy were also discussed at length.

He also noted that a reforms office will be established at the Ministry to work towards the transformations.
