Thai-based shipping line Regional Container Lines is to begin a twice-weekly Sri Lanka-India service between Colombo and Tuticorin in response to the Sri Lankan port’s growing position as a transhipment hub.
According to Regional Container Lines, the new schedule will begin on 8 January using the vessel M/V Charlie.
RCL EVP Business Charlie Chu commented: “Introducing this new service to the market is in response to main line operators requesting for more feedering options.
“Being a feeder company, we have been strongly encouraged by main line operators forecasting an increase in volume who are using Colombo as a transhipment hub, which prompted this move.”
RCL currently owns and operates a fleet of 46 vessels ranging from 500 to 3,316 twenty foot equivalent units (TEU) in size.
