Vidullanka PLC has announced the appointment of Rizvi Zaheed to the Board of Vidullanka PLC with effect from 31 July.

This announcement follows the resignation of Dr. A. A. M. Haroon and B.R.I. Sangani from the Board a day before.

Zaheed retired from the Board of Hayleys PLC on 31 March, after having served as a Director since August 2004. His longstanding tenor at Hayleys includes serving the senior management team for over two decades and leading the agriculture sector as the Managing Director of Hayley’s Agriculture Holdings Ltd. through dynamic market conditions. He continues his association with Hayleys as the Executive Director of Hayleys Consumer Products Ltd.

Zaheed holds a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Kelaniya and an MBA from University of Colombo. He is a member of The Industrial Society, UK, and Swedish Institute of Management, Sweden, and is a JCI International Senator.

During his tenor at Hayleys, he represented the Company on the Board of Sri Lanka Institute of Nanotechnology (SLINTEC) and he also served as the Chairman of the Agriculture and Livestock Steering Committee and as Vice Chairman of the Imports Section of Ceylon Chamber of Commerce.

He currently serves as the Co-Chair of the Biotechnology Cluster of the Coordinating Secretariat for Technology and Innovation (COSTI), and as Chairman of the National Industry Biotechnology Association.  He is also a member of the University Grants Commission Standing Committee on Agriculture and Livestock, the Food and Beverage Advisory Committee of the Sri Lanka Export Development Board, and is a member of the main committee of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce.

Zaheed is currently serving as the Vice Chairman of CSR Sri Lanka (Guarantee) Ltd., an NGO formed and represented solely by the private sector companies with the aim of engaging the wider corporate community in addressing national priorities and to facilitate necessary resources to bridge the gap between ad hoc CSR projects and creating sustainable value.

Vidullanka PLC, with its fast-growing renewable energy portfolio, including the ongoing development of the Dehiattakandiya Dendro power project and the associated development of Gliricidia plantations to supply sustainably grown fuel wood to the power plant, remains to benefit immensely from the wealth of knowledge and expertise of the incoming Director.
