Cabinet of Ministers on Monday approved to start of a project supported by the French Government and top tyre manufacturer – Michelin Group to support 6,000 rubber farmers.
“The implementation of the project will benefit 6,000 small-scale rubber estate owners in Badalkumbura and Medagama areas in the Monaragala district. The farmers are supported to improve their value chain of rubber products and expand their capacities through this project,” Cabinet Co-Spokesman and Minister Bandula Gunawardena said at the post-Cabinet meeting media briefing on Tuesday.
He said the funding is from the Government of France and the French leader in sustainable mobility – Michelin Group which has a subsidiary in Sri Lanka.
France-based Ksapa Group will implement the project under the guidance of the Plantation Industries Ministry.
“The total cost of the project is estimated at 726,700 Euros and the proposed project is approved by the Department of National Policy Planning,” he said.
The proposal to this effect submitted by the Plantation Industries Minister Dr. Ramesh Pathirana to enter into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to implement the said project was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers on Monday.
