Trade Commerce and Food Security Minister Nalin Fernando and Argentinian Ambassador Hugo Javier Gobbi held a bilateral discussion yesterday in Colombo.
The two sides discussed the expansion of the economy, trade, and business as well as investment opportunities between the two countries. The Minister asked about the ability to export value-added products in this country to the Argentinian market, as well as obtain advanced technological knowledge and wisdom needed for food processing to expand the production capacities to enhance the export sector in the country.
The Argentinian Ambassador emphasised the importance of cooperation in the agricultural sector between both countries.
He also praised the progress of Sri Lanka towards a recovering economy. The promotion of Argentinean products such as edible oil, wine, and medicine to the Sri Lankan market, getting the necessary raw materials for the animal food products produced in Sri Lanka, and ways to attract high-end tourists to the country were also discussed.
To further expand the relationship between the States through the trade agreement GSTP (Global System of Trade Preferences) in the fields of tourism and sports, together with the Sri Lanka Software Service Companies Association (SLASSCOM) and other IT institutions and the field of information and communication technology. The launch of higher technical exchange activities was also discussed here.
A group of ministry officials including the Ministry Secretary A.M.P.M.B. Athapattu, Department of Commerce Director General Dr. Lakmini Mendis participated in this event.
