Sri Lanka was represented at the Commonwealth Finance Ministers Meeting (CFMM) by State Finance Minister Shehan Semasinghe, while Central Bank Governor Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe attended the Commonwealth Central Bank Governors Meeting (CCBG) in Washington, D.C.

The CFMM meeting focused heavily on the negative macroeconomic effects of the COVID pandemic as well as potential solutions to the unprecedented fiscal challenges that would need to be faced to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030.

The meeting provided a unique informal environment for open discussion, focusing on the theme “A Road to Economic Recovery: A Macroeconomic Perspective,” which addressed emerging economic concerns affecting Commonwealth countries.

Both sessions concentrated on topics crucial to the 56 member countries’ economic and sustainable development, including the Commonwealth member States’ recovery trajectory and issues with debt and increasing inflation.
