The Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Guangzhou arranged the Sri Lanka country pavilion, consisting of seven Sri Lankan companies located in China for participation at the 17th China International Small and Medium Enterprises Fair (CISMEF) from 16-19 September in Guangzhou.

The CISMEF inaugurated since 2004, gives a platform to display, trade, exchange and cooperate with small and medium enterprises at home and abroad to increase understanding, strengthen cooperation and for development of trade between China and other countries.

The Sri Lanka country pavilion consisted of Lion Management Ltd., Ceylon Tips Branding Ltd., Maliban Biscuit Manufacturers Ltd., Arpico, Imperial tea Ltd., Sinolan Tea and Tea Talk, which promoted and sold Ceylon tea, biscuits, spices, kittul pani, coconut oil, King coconut water and Arpico pillows, to local buyers and visitors who attended the exposition.

The CISMEF gave a good opportunity for the Sri Lankan companies to promote Sri Lankan products in Southern China. The companies managed to secure several prospective Chinese buyers for their products, especially for the kittul pani, which was very successful with Chinese buyers, creating prospects to expand the product to a larger Chinese market.

The Sri Lanka pavilion also consisted of the stall of the Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Guangzhou, which contained pictures of Sri Lanka tourist attractions, cultural sites, and some handicrafts of Sri Lanka.

Many visitors and buyers to the CISMEF were attracted to the Sri Lanka pavilion and made inquiries about Sri Lanka, tasted ‘Ceylon tea’ and inspected and bought their products.

This year’s CISMEF consisted of 2,000 local small and medium enterprises including 35 countries and regions.

There were over 100,000 visitors and more than 10,000 buyers, mainly from Southern China, who participated in the exhibition.
