  • Manufacturers and exporters of rubber products request stability to ensure economic activity

The Sri Lanka Association of Manufacturers and Exporters of Rubber Products (SLAMERP) in a statement yesterday called upon all political parties and authorities to ensure in bringing in a peaceful transition of power through the democratic establishments and the constitutional provisions of the country.

“The country needs political stability, quick and decisive actions collectively from all stakeholders, so that economic activity is allowed to continue while getting the confidence of the international community and multilateral agencies to support the ongoing debt restructuring process,” it said.

SLAMERP members are keen to see a peaceful and orderly transition, which should give our buyers confidence to place more export orders out of Sri Lanka. This is critically important, as any negative news through public disorder would be caried through international media, damaging the reputation and the image of the country that would jeopardise the country’s economy and the resilience of the export industry, which is bringing in the vital foreign exchange and holding the stability of the labour market.

“We call upon the general public and both public and private sector institutions to help maintain law and order and work efficiently to overcome the current challenges faced by the country and to assist the production and export industry with maximum commitment to continue with our day-to-day activities,” SLAMERP said.

“We also request the domestic media institutions to support us with this endeavour by highlighting and emphasising the achievements made in the export and business sectors that is focusing all its efforts to keep the economy moving during this challenging times,” it added.
