Saranga Wijeyarathne takes over reins at Colombo Chamber of Commerce

The Colombo Chamber of Commerce has appointed Saranga Wijeyarathne as its new President for the year 2019-2021. The Chamber made this announcement at its Annual General Meeting held recently at the Sri Lanka Foundation.

Saranga holds an MBA from the University of Colombo and a first class degree in Marketing Management from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura. He is a fully-qualified member of the Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing (SLIM) and has part-qualifications from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (CA-Sri Lanka).

He is currently serving as a Director of the Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Sri Lanka (FCCISL). Heheld the prestigious position of President of the Colombo University MBA Alumni Association in 2013-14, and has served as the Director of the International Advertising Association (IAA). He also served as a Member of the Global Advisory Board of the World Brand Congress 2015 in Singapore.

Saranga is currently serving as the Director General of the national television station, Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation.

The Colombo Chamber of Commerce is one of largest independent networking and business support organisations, representing the interests of SME sector entrepreneurs and companies. CCC also represents the interests of its members to key business stakeholders and influencers in Colombo.

When asked about his plans as Colombo Chamber President, Saranga said: “Together with my team, we have identified and prioritisedwhat we have to do. Increasing the visibility of the Chamber and enhancing member engagement are the two main objectives for the year. We want to increase the value of getting membership inthe Chamber. One of our major priorities is to give networking opportunities and contribute towards the nation and towards the growth of the economy of the country.”

The new Board of Directors of the Colombo Chamber of Commerce consists of a young and energetic team with Prasanna Liyanage(Immediate Past President), Dilesha Perera(Secretary), Roshan Gunawardane (Senior Vice President), Damith Gangodawilage (Treasurer), Lakmal Wajirasiri (Vice President), Mohamad Afthab (Director), Dhakshitha Bogollagama (Director) and M. Shabir (Advisory Board Member).
