A seminar cum webinar titled “Anti-Corruption Act: The Role of the Corporate Sector” organised by Corporate Legal Consultants will be held on 23 August from 2.00 p.m. to 5.00 p.m. at the Movenpick Hotel Colombo 3

Organisers said the Bribery Act has undergone significant expansion, now encompassing not only public servants but also extending its reach to include all citizens. It is imperative for the private sector to duly acknowledge and address this pivotal development. Corporate entities in Sri Lanka must undertake the responsibility of educating their staff while concurrently fortifying and strengthening their governance mechanisms to adhere to the provisions of the new Anti-Corruption laws.

It will be imperative that corporates get aligned with the new legislature and make necessary compliance to prevent corruption within and outside organisations. It will now become relevant for corporates to have anti-corruption code and get its staff to sign off and comply with it as done in developed jurisdictions. The anti-corruption code of conduct should be committed to combating all forms of corruption. Such codes should fall within the ambit of the new Act, and should address transparency, combating corruption and modernising economic life.

However, a single document cannot address all cases of corruption and influence peddling that may arise within the framework of daily activities; each person must therefore use his/her own judgment and exercise common sense.

The keynote address at the seminar/webinar will be delivered by Senior Additional Solicitor General and Bribery Commission Former Director General Sarath Jayamanne PC.

The other speakers are International Compliance Association (UK) Fellow and former SEC and IBSL Chairman Dr. D.C. Jayasuriya PC, and Legal Consultant/Former SEC Director General and Ministry of Finance Senior Advisor Malik Cader.
