The Capital Maharaja Group (CMG) has appointed Shameer Rasooldeen to its Main Board as a Group Director. At 37 years of age, he is the youngest sitting member of CMG’s Main Board.
Prior to his appointment to the Board, Shameer was Director/CEO at A.F. Jones Exporters Ltd., the export arm of the Group.
A well-known media personality, Shameer is a CNN Fellow, a Dag Hammarsjkold Fellow and a Chevening Fellow. He was among the Top 20 Young Leaders in Asia awarded by the Asia Society in 2017 and is an international award winner for his reporting.
He was adjudged Sri Lanka’s Outstanding Young Personality of the Year by the Junior Chamber of Commerce in 2014.
A past student of D.S.Senanayake College, Colombo, Shameer joined CMG in 2004 as a news reporter at News 1st and at the age of 25 was appointed as Director heading the English News Desk. He is the long-time host of Face The Nation, one of Sri Lanka’s most watched political talk shows.
Shameer was appointed to head the Group’s Tea operations in 2016, and won the Executive of The Year Award at the CMG Annual Group Review in 2019, for his remarkable performance in the Group.
He is an alumnus of St. Cross College of the University of Oxford, and holds an MBA from Cardiff Metropolitan University in the UK, and a professional qualification in Human Resources from the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management, Sri Lanka (CIPM). He is a senior Lecturer in Human Resources at CIPM.
This is the first Board appointment at CMG following the appointment of Sashi Rajamahendran as Chairman/Managing Director at CMG, two years ago.
