Sri Lanka Tea Board denies false reports

The Sri Lanka Tea Board yesterday denied false reports stating that some factory owners were in the process of importing cheap teas from overseas for mixing and re-packing to be sold at the auctions. 

“This is to inform the general public and all stakeholders of the tea industry that the Tea Board does not issue any permits to manufacturers of tea to import teas from overseas to be blended and sold at the Colombo Auction,” Sri Lanka Tea Board Chairman Lucille Wijewardena said.

Noting that there had been false reports on social media that some factory owners were in the process of importing cheap teas for mixing to be re-packed and sold at the Colombo auction, he called on all stakeholders not to be misguided.
