THE Sri Lanka–Benelux Business Council (SLBBC) of The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce conducted its 29th Annual General Meeting on Wednesday, 26 March at the Ceylon Chamber premises.
Addressing the event, the Chief Guest, Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Sri Lanka and the Maldives Deputy Ambassador and Head of the Economic Department Iwan Rutjens, highlighted the importance of business collaboration in fostering economic growth. He acknowledged the enduring trade and investment ties between Sri Lanka and the Benelux region, emphasising the crucial role of entrepreneurs in driving progress and strengthening partnerships. Rutjens reaffirmed the Benelux countries’ commitment to Sri Lanka’s economic advancement, noting that the Netherlands remains one of Sri Lanka’s key export destinations. He stressed the significance of sustainable trade practices, adherence to the rule of law, and democratic principles in creating a resilient and dynamic business landscape.
Council President Wijenayake reaffirmed the Council’s commitment to fostering trade and investment between Sri Lanka and the Benelux nations. He emphasised the importance of engaging with the EU Green Deal, promoting responsible business practices, and exploring new opportunities in renewable energy and sustainable agriculture. He also underscored the need for a business promotion mission to the Netherlands, calling it an overdue initiative that would further enhance collaboration and investment.
Aitken Spence Travels (Pvt) Ltd Assistant Vice President Sajith Wijenayake, was re-elected as President for the 2024/2025 term. P.M. Abeysekara (Vinu International Trading Company Ltd.) and Shaameel Mohideen (Spillburg Holdings Ltd.) were appointed Vice Presidents. The Council also re-elected committee members representing Fanam International Ltd., John Keells Holdings PLC, and Nisol Diamonds Ltd. Mahen Kariyawasan from Andrew The Travel Company Ltd. will continue to serve on the committee as the Immediate Past President.
