The Delegation of German Industry and Commerce in Sri Lanka (AHK Sri Lanka) successfully organised a Sri Lankan Pavilion at the International Green Week (IGW) 2025, held from 17 to 26 of January at Messe Berlin, Germany. Recognised as the world’s largest B2C exhibition for food and agriculture, the IGW attracted over 300,000 visitors, providing an exceptional platform for Sri Lanka to showcase its premium products and expand its presence in international markets.

The Sri Lankan Pavilion featured 12 prominent companies — Ceylon Exports & Trading Ltd., Xilan, HDDES Extracts Ltd., Elisha Gospel Handicrafts, The Agristuff Ltd., Rithu Products, Group Coconut Ltd., CapOrganic, Uptown International, Senani Food Products Ltd., Ceylon Masala, and Peth Ltd. Together, they presented a diverse range of products, including Ceylon tea, Ceylon cinnamon, various spices, coconut-based products, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, handicrafts, and authentic ready-to-eat Sri Lankan foods.

This year, AHK Sri Lanka had the privilege of collaborating with the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and the European Union (EU), under EU’s regional initiative, Accelerating Climate Smart and Inclusive Infrastructure in South Asia (ACSIIS). This partnership has been instrumental in better positioning and promoting high quality exports of PGI-certified Ceylon Cinnamon in international markets and facilitating the participation of Sri Lankan exhibitors and exporters.

A remarkable moment of the event was the official inauguration of the Sri Lankan pavilion by Germany’s Federal Minister of Food and Agriculture Cem Özdemir, adding prestige and significance to Sri Lanka’s presence. His inaugural gesture set the stage in showcasing Sri Lanka’s agricultural excellence on a global platform. Joining this milestone occasion were several other distinguished dignitaries from Germany and Sri Lanka, including Governing Mayor of Berlin Kai Wegner; Sri Lankan Ambassador to Germany Varuni Muthukumarana; European Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Christophe Hansen; German Farmers’ Association President Joachim Rukwied; Federation of German Food and Drink Industries Chairman Dr. Christian von Boetticher; and Messe Berlin GmbH President and CEO Dr. Mario Tobias. Their presence significantly enhanced the visibility of Sri Lanka’s participation and underscored the country’s growing importance in the global food and agriculture sector.

The exhibition provided an excellent opportunity to highlight the distinctiveness of Sri Lankan products and connect with new buyers, distributors, and business partners. Beyond consumer engagement, exhibitors also participated in B2B meetings with potential partners from Germany and the EU, strengthening trade relationships and paving the way for future export opportunities. The event showcased Sri Lanka’s capacity to meet global market demands and solidified its reputation as a trusted source of premium food and agricultural products. Adding further significance to the event, German Federal Minister of Food and Agriculture Cem Özdemir visited the Sri Lanka Pavilion for the second time, accompanied by 30 students. As part of this visit, a dedicated food tasting session was conducted to educate students on the distinct qualities, health benefits, and authenticity of Ceylon cinnamon, equipping them with knowledge to distinguish it from counterfeit products in the global market. Moreover, a special live cooking demonstration was also organised, allowing visitors to savour the authentic flavours of Ceylon Cinnamon and explore its versatile culinary applications. The success of IGW 2025 demonstrates the significant opportunities available for Sri Lankan businesses in the international market. Encouraged by these positive outcomes, AHK Sri Lanka remains committed to supporting future participation in this prestigious event and urges the Sri Lankan Government and industry stakeholders to leverage this platform to further elevate the country’s food and agriculture sector.
