Sripalie Contractors wins two awards at Sri Lankan Entrepreneur of the Year competition

Sripalie Contractors Ltd. was the proud recipient of the Sri Lankan Entrepreneur of the Year award for 2018 organised by Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Sri Lanka (FCCISL).

It bagged the Bronze Award under “National Level Sector-Service | Category- Extra Large” and Silver Award under “Southern Province Sector- Service | Category- Extra Large”. 

Sri Lankan Entrepreneur of the Year is recognised as Sri Lanka’s premier entrepreneurship awards and has been recognising and celebrating business successes in Sri Lanka for last 22 years. The award provides an opportunity for a broad range of businesses from across the country to showcase their business excellence.

The eminent panel of judges comprises 13 members holding leading positions in the public and private sector and academia i.e. University of Moratuwa, Department of Commerce, Institute of Bankers of Sri Lanka, Postgraduate Institute of Management (PIM), University of Kelaniya University of Colombo, IESL, BDO Partner, Export Development Board, Asian Development Bank and Central Environmental authority.

Sripalie Contractors Ltd. is no stranger to winning industry awards and Sri Lankan Entrepreneurship award is another important addition to the impressive list of awards they had won in the past.

It is one of Sri Lanka’s premier construction companies engaged in providing end-to-end construction solutions to the country since its inception in 1971. The services provided by the company include Building Construction (including industrial, commercial, hotel, institutional, residential, hospital etc.), Design & Build and Road Construction.

De Silva further noted: “It is widely recognised that entrepreneurship is essential for a country’s economic development. An entrepreneur plays a key role in generating employment and improving the business environment. Governments across the world have recognised the importance of creating an enabling environment to foster and encourage entrepreneurship. But in our country, there are many factors that discourage entrepreneurship. An entrepreneur is forced to go through untold hardship and misery in order to be successful in Sri Lanka. This is one of the reasons for lack of economic development in our country. For Sri Lanka to diversify our economic activities and to develop a robust economy, it is important that our Government promotes innovative ventures and provide support to them reduce entrepreneurial risk”.

Sripalie Contractors Board of Directors comprises Managing Director Ruwan De Silva, P.H Chandana De Siva and Rishantha De Silva. The Board of Directors are supported by a well-experienced, professional, dynamic and energetic heads of divisions, project managers, engineering, technical and managerial staff, and leading private and public sector bankers who are behind the high standard of management skills displayed by Sripalie Contractors. The company enjoys C1 grade for Building Construction and SP-1 for Floor, Wall & Ceiling Finishes (FW&C), Carpentry & Joinery (Carp) and Aluminium & Finishes (A&F) in Finishing Trades and EM-2 for Electrical & Mechanical fields with the ISO9001:2008 Quality Management Standard. 

Ruwan De Silva currently serves as a Director at National Construction Association of Sri Lanka (NCASL) and Federation of Chambers of Commerce and industries of Sri Lanka (FCCISL), Vice President at Ceylon Institute of Builders (CIOB) and Galle Cricket Club (CCC), a Governing Council Member of The Sri Lanka Accreditation Board for conformity assessment (SLAB) and a General Assembly Member of SAARC Chamber of Commerce & Industry. At National Construction Association of Sri Lanka, he served as the Chairman of the organising committee that organised the Construct exhibition in 2016, 2017 & 2018. He is a member of Lions Club of Galle Metro and a Director of the Management Club, Colombo.
