Tan Beng Chuan retires from Grain Elevators after 17-year stint

Longstanding senior executive Tan Beng Chuan has retired from Ceylon Grain Elevators Plc of Prima

Group after a 17-year stint. 

The company announced that Tan retired as Group General Manager and as Executive Director with effect from 31 October 2020. He retired from subsidiary Three Acre Farms Plc as well.

“We take this opportunity to place on record the appreciation of the Board of Directors for the valuable contribution made by Tan Beng Chuan over the past 17 years by providing guidance and leadership to the company,” Grain Elevators said. 

Prima Ltd., Singapore is the biggest shareholder of Ceylon Grain Elevators with 45.45% stake.

Tan was the Group General Manager of Prima Group of Companies, Sri Lanka since 2004. He was appointed as a Director of the Company and its subsidiary companies in 2004. He also served as a Director of Three Acre Farms PLC and its subsidiaries, Ceylon Agro Industries Ltd., and Prima Ceylon

Machinery Ltd.

He holds an MBA in Management and Marketing from University of Warwick, UK and B.Sc. (Hon) in Chemical Engineering from University of Surrey UK.

Tan was the past President Mentor of Singapore (Sri Lanka) Club; Executive Committee member of Sri Lanka-Canada Business Council, Executive Committee member of Sri Lanka-Singapore Business Council and a Committee member of Sri Lanka-China Business Council.

Grain Elevators also announced the appointment of Chan Kong Meng Lawrence as the new Group General Manager and Executive Director with effect from 1 November.

Lawrence Chan joined the Prima Group in Singapore on 1 August and has more than a decade of senior management experience, having been CEO and Managing Director (South Asia), Chief Corporate Development Officer (International), Regional Head (South East Asia) and Country Director (Indonesia) across different industry groups. 

Chan is also a qualified lawyer with over 20 years of experience in M&As and corporate finance, and was previously Group General Counsel, Head of Enterprise Risk Management and Head of Corporate Affairs for multinational public listed companies.

He holds a Master’s Degree in Business Administration, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore; a Master’s Degree in Business Administration, BI Norwegian School of Business, Norway and a Bachelor’s Degree in Law (Dual Honours with Economics), University of Keele, United Kingdom.

He is also an Advocate and Solicitor, Supreme Court of Singapore and a Barrister-At-Law, Middle Temple, United Kingdom.

With the changes, the Board of Ceylon Grain Elevators Plc comprises W.S. Weerasooriya (Chairman), C.C.K. Primus (CEO and Executive Director), C.K.M. Lawrence (Executive Director and Group GM), B.C.K. Chuen, C.E. Loong, P. Ramanujam, and A.R. Asirwatham.
