Former banking sector professional Tissa Nanayakkara has been appointed as the new Chairman of Lanka Electricity Company Ltd. (LECO), by Power and Energy Minister Ravi Karunanayake.

LECO is the largest electricity distribution company in Sri Lanka. It has throughout attracted foreign funding from the Asian Development Bank and is highly benefited by the consultancies of utility consultants such as Becca Worely International in setting up their efficient network. LECO as a utility is benchmarked very high in the South East Asian region.
Nanayakkara had a near four-decade stint in the banking sector before retiring from Seylan Bank as the Senior Deputy General Manager – Retail Banking in March 2017.
At present, he is the Chief Executive officer of UPGI Ltd. fully owned company of Interblocks Ltd., handling card/Ali Pay acquiring with Sampath Bank Sri Lanka. He is also working as Director of Welfare benefit board of Ministry of Finance and Mass Media.
Nanayakkara commenced his career as a banker with Hatton National Bank Ltd., in 1980 he later worked at Amro Bank, American Express and joined Seylan Bank Business Development Division.
Among other positions held were Assistant to the Hony. Consul General for the Republic of Cyprus in Sri Lanka (9 November 2005 – December 2008); Vice Chairman and a Board Member, Lanka Hospitals Corporations PLC (3 March 2015 – 6 November 2015), Member – Board Audit Committee Lanka Hospitals Corporations PLC (6 March 2015 – 6 November 2015), Member – Board Remuneration Committee Lanka Hospitals Corporations PLC, (6 March 2015 – 6 November 2015) and Board Member Lanka Hospitals Diagnostics Ltd. (22 March 2015 – 6 November 2015).
