The management of Tokyo Cement Company (Lanka) PLC recently laid foundation for a factory expansion project in Trincomalee, to increase its manufacturing capacity by a further one million metric tons. The project scheduled to be completed by early 2023 will bring Tokyo Cement Group’s total installed capacity to four million MT, firmly establishing the company’s position as the largest manufacturer of cement in the country.
The new expansion project at the Tokyo Cement Factory in Trincomalee reflects the company’s readiness to cater to the future growth in demand of the local construction industry. With the 18-month expansion plan Tokyo Cement will increase the production of Tokyo Super, Nippon Cement and Nippon Cement Pro, market-leading brands of Ordinary Portland and Blended Hydraulic Cements, using state-of-the-art technology.
This will significantly enhance local value creation; with the addition of more direct and indirect employment opportunities, compounded by the thousands of ancillary product and service suppliers supported through local cement manufacturing, setting off a ripple effect of economic benefits for the country. The move will firmly establish the Tokyo Cement Company’s position as the leading partner in nation building.
Tokyo Cement Group Chairman Dr. Harsha Cabral PC, Managing Director S.R. Gnanam, Member of the Board of Directors Ravi Dias and Executive Director Christopher Fernando were joined by Raddella Holdings/Hanco Constructions Ltd. Chairman Nihal Raddella for the foundation laying event.
With Rev. Father Kendall Atkinson dedicating the project initiation, Tokyo Eastern Cement Company/Tokyo Cement Factory General Manager V.M. Ravinthirakumar, Tokyo Eastern Cement Co. Director/General Manager, Power and Energy E.
