UNDP and VTA enter into partnership to develop future-fit skills of Sri Lankan youth

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Vocational Training Authority of Sri Lanka (VTA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to develop and expand work towards building a future-fit young generation through proposed programmatic interventions. The MOU will serve to establish and implement joint efforts to bridge the gap between future of work and entrepreneurship and youth capacity building. 

The MOU was signed by UNDP in Sri Lanka Resident Representative Robert Juhkam and VTA Chairman Damitha Wickramasinghe. Also present at the occasion were VTA Vice Chairman Sanjaya Jayamanna and Director – Career Guidance and Promotion Saman Kulasuriya.

The objective of the MoU is to jointly design and implement capacity and skill enhancement programs for young people enrolled with the VTA., The programs will focus on leadership, innovation and entrepreneurship skills and will be carried out through UNDP Sri Lanka’s HackaDev Academy of Skills and Learning.

Further they will collaborate on the institutional strengthening of VTA including the teaching capacity of VTA program officers, and improving the digital infrastructure of the institution.

This initiative is part of UNDP’s long-term partnerships with the TVET sector institutions in Sri Lanka.
