Udeni, Dinesh appointed to Lanka Ashok Leyland

Lanka Ashok Leyland PLC has announced the appointment of Udeni Samararatne and Dinesh Weerakkody as Independent Non-Executive Directors of the company, effective 1 February 2025.

Samararatne has previously served as a Non-Executive Director of Peoples Bank, Peoples Leasing PLC, and Alliance Finance PLC, Bangladesh. He was also the Chairman of Peoples Travels Ltd., and currently serves as a Board Director at Richard Pieris PLC.

He is a Chartered Management Accountant (UK) and a Chartered Certified Accountant (UK). Samararatne holds an MBA from the Swiss Business School, Zurichand a Masters in Financial Economics from the University of Colombo.

Weerakkody is the former Chairman of Hatton National Bank PLC and Commercial Bank of Ceylon PLC, and a former Director of DFCC Bank. He has also held key leadership roles in the public sector. Currently, he is the Chairman of Union Bank of Colombo PLC and the Employers Federation of Ceylon. He is also the immediate past Chairman of the International Chamber of Commerce Sri Lanka, the Senior Vice Chairman of the Sri Lanka Institute of Directors, and a Director of several leading companies.

Weerakkody is a Graduate in Business Administration UK, a Fellow Member of both the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants UK and the Certified Management Accountants of SL, Professional Member of the Singapore Human Resource Institute and holds an MBA from the University of Leicester, United Kingdom.
