A seminar on improving business profits through Resource Efficiency and Cleaner Production (RECP) conducted by National Cleaner Production Centre Sri Lanka Deputy Director Samantha Kumarasena in collaboration with Association for International Standards (AIS) will be held on Thursday 24 May from 9a.m. to 12.30p.m. at the Ground Floor Auditorium of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, 50 Nawam Mawatha, Colombo 2.

Cleaner Production Methodology is being increasingly adopted by many manufacturing and service sector organisations in Sri Lanka as a practical and effective way of reducing the consumption of resources, namely raw materials, packaging materials, electricity, steam, compressed air and water. The main focus is on reducing the waste of resources at source rather than looking for end-of-pipe treatment which happens to be costly. Efficiency of the consumption of resources is determined by analysing in detail the value adding and support activities using appropriate techniques which are followed by identification of the causes and developing suitable CP options and implementation programmes.

Adopting RECP will bring forth substantial reduction of the resources, consumption which will result in lowering the operational costs and improving the bottom line profitability of the organisation. As environment pollution is caused by industrial waste, reducing the same provides an effective method to improve the environmental performance of the organisation.

The workshop is intended for the middle management and supervisory staff of manufacturing and service industries and will provide very useful and practical guidance as to how they can contribute to business profits.  Kumarasena has more than 17 years of experience in training and consultancy for the industry where last eight years as the Deputy Director of National Cleaner Production Centre, Sri Lanka. He is a qualified Lead Auditor in ISO 9001 Quality Management System, ISO 14001 Environment Management System and OHSAS 18001 Occupational Health and Safety Management System. He serves as a visiting lecturer to several universities and Public and private sector training institutes in Sri Lanka. He is a member of National Committee on International Council of Scientific Unions (ICSU).

A certificate of attendance will be presented by the Association for International Standards (AIS) to each participant. For registration and information contact Chathurika on 558 8882 or email: [email protected].
