Abans, a company that places the highest priority on environmental protection declared open their new environmental friendly and automated Regional Warehousing Complex on 25 October 2013. It is located close to the 38th mile post on the A9 highway on the Dambulla-Matale Road, in Lenadora, Dambulla. In addition to their existing eco-friendly warehousing facility in Kadolkale, Seeduwa, Abans has now extended its logistical services outside of Colombo to cater to more than 150 to 200 of their showrooms in and around the central region. Since Dambulla is a well located area, the new warehouse is strategically placed to provide accessibility to many of Abans Showrooms across Sri Lanka. The new 12,000 square foot warehouse is equipped with state-of-the-art machinery for handling container cargo, stacking and storing of electric and electronic home appliances and is the only warehouse of its kind outside Colombo. The electrical handling equipment installed at this complex has been specially chosen for its operational versatility as well as minimal power usage. With zero emissions, these machines are environment friendly and safe to operate with built-in safety measures to protect users, property and the environment. It is a truly custom-built logistics centre. The warehouse has docking facilities supported by latest handling equipment. All loading bays are angled for optimal usage of available space and ensure easy access and manoeuvrability for 40-foot containers.     Speedy docking The existence of two docking facilities per bay enables speedy cross-docking, if the need arises. The floor is raised to 4.26 feet to protect and enhance safety of stored items from floods and other consequences. The high roof of the warehouse is of translucent sheeting that permits natural light to enter the warehouse and enable operations to be conducted late in the evening without the need for artificial lighting. In addition, power ventilators, insulated materials, louvers and grilled windows ensure a comfortable working environment. Many auxiliary buildings support the welfare of the workforce with facilities such as an infirmary. A safe and healthy working environment has been given the utmost priority during both construction and operation of this warehouse. This multi-purpose warehousing complex has been built with the intention of being operationally cost effective as well as environmentally friendly. The excess land in the complex surrounding the warehouse has been cultivated with vegetables, fruit and useful trees to provide a greener environment. This new facility will also enhance new job opportunities and provide livelihood to the people in and around this region.
