Access Engineering is pleased to be recognized at the National Business Excellence Awards (NBEA) 2012. Whilst benchmarking to be in the forefront as a business enterprise providing value engineering services to our diverse clientele, every now and then, they appreciate the opportunity to benchmark their performances with all business enterprises in Sri Lanka. The NBEA is known for its diligent process in selecting award winners and it is our privilege to be a part of this process now for the fourth successive year.

The primary objective of this competition is to recognise and reward contributions that have been made by business enterprises towards the economic progress of the country. Among our past accolades at the NBEA includes being the winner of the Overall Best Knowledge Integrator for two consecutive years.

This year was by far our best performance at the NBEA where they received the coveted Overall Gold Award for Business and Financial Performance, which carried the highest weightage of all awards, for criteria that formed the basis for evaluation of all applicants. In addition to this, they received the Gold award for the Construction Sector (jointly with Maga Engineering) and the Overall Bronze Award in the Extra Large Category (jointly with Maga Engineering), which resulted in a very successful awards night for our company.

“The primary reasons we take part in such competitions is due to the opportunity availed to assess our business performance against other successful business enterprises within and beyond our business sectors with a view to re-assure all our stakeholders our continuous commitment to improve our business” said Access Engineering Executive Director Christopher Joshua.

The year under review has been another exceptional year for Access Engineering. The company created history becoming the first privately owned business enterprise in Sri Lanka to gift 15% of its shares among the employees of the company in appreciation of their contribution to the company. The value of shares gifted to the employees amounts to Rs. three Billion. In March 2012 the company became the first Greenfield construction company in Sri Lanka to be listed in the Colombo Stock Exchange.

On the financial perspective, the company almost doubled its turnover compared to the previous year together with a 53% increase in earnings after tax. In terms of capacity building, the company increased its workforce by almost 100% whilst making significant investments in property, plant and machinery amounting to over Rs. 1.5 Billion.

“We continue to attach high importance to product and process innovation, which has resulted in the significant achievements both in turnover and profit during the year under review. The capital investments and initiatives taken have resulted in increasing and creating new capacity to meet the current and future growth prospects of the company. These investments further strengthened the core areas of our business by enhancing our competitiveness as a turnkey contractor” said Access Engineering Chief Operating Officer Rohana Fernando.

Their continuous success is primarily attributed, to their unique and extra ordinary team at Access Engineering.
