ACCIMT signs MoU with HIST

Clarke Institute for Modern Technologies (ACCIMT) recently signed a MoU with the International Centre on Space Technologies for Natural and Cultural Heritage (HIST). The MoU was signed by Eng. Sanath Panawennage, Director General, ACCIMT, and Prof. Guo Huadong, Director, HIST and Director, RADI. The aim of this understanding is using of space technologies in identification, monitoring, conservation, management and development of cultural and natural heritage sites in Sri Lanka. Established in 1994, ACCIMT operates within the purview of the Ministry of Technology and Research and specialises in the disciplines of electronics, micro-electronics, telecommunications, information technology, space technologies, robotics and other related fields of modern technology. Under the UNESCO partnership with international space agencies for assisting developing member states by applying space technologies to assess the cultural and natural heritage sites, the HIST is one of its hosted centres, which is funded by the Institute of Remote Sensing and Digital Earth (RADI), a prominent public agency in China specialising in satellite remote sensing and related disciplines. The MoU will facilitate collaborative programs such as joint research, pilot projects on space technology applications (including, provision of requisite satellite data), and postgraduate training opportunities for scientists, engineers and other relevant specialists from the technology-recipient agencies of Sri Lanka. Archt. Prasanna Ratnayake, Acting Director General, Dept. of Archeology, Dr. Trianhua and Dr. N. Ishwaran from HIST, and Senior Officials from ACCIMT also presented at the event.
