Attorney General President’s Counsel Palitha Fernando has warned that the country might stand to lose foreign direct investments if it is identified as being rife with bribery and corruption. Addressing an event in Colombo, Fernando said that it is the ordinary citizens in the country who stand to suffer due to bribery and corruption. He explained that curbing bribery and corruption in the country would minimise a massive loss incurred by the country’s economy and the people will tend to benefit when investments start flowing in to the country. He noted that it was the duty of every citizen in the country to work towards eradicating bribery and corruption from the country. According to Fernando, despite existing laws in the country to act against bribery and corruption, they would not serve its purpose without the cooperation of the people. The Attorney General pointed out that the people need to be aware of bribery and corruption, the bad consequences and the laws in place to address them.
