AmCham leads trade and investment delegation to Thailand

The International Relations Committee of the American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) Sri Lanka led a three-day trade and investment mission to Thailand on 21 January with the objective of exploring trade and investment opportunities presented by member companies of AmCham Thailand.
AmCham Thailand has a membership of over 700 companies and over 2,000 professionals. The Sri Lankan delegation was represented by sectors such as logistics, energy and infrastructure, F&B, property development and ICT.
The delegates met with their counter parts from AmCham Thailand on 22 January for a luncheon meeting, which comprised of presentations and networking sessions. The delegates also had the opportunity to meet one-on-one with a number of companies attending the event.
AmCham Sri Lanka President Asanka Rathnayake made a presentation on ‘Sri Lanka: Gateway to ASEAN’. He highlighted the economic growth achieved by the country over the past few years and more importantly the legislative changes being introduced to position Sri Lanka as a hub in the region.
A success story of doing business in Sri Lanka was shared by Poojitha Rajapakse, Director Public Sector and Education Microsoft Sri Lanka, ‘Next phase in ICT growth’ showcased the evolution, potential and growth of the ICT sector in Sri Lanka
The presentations were well received by the audience. “Excellent timely presentation of the business opportunity in the region,” said a participant, commenting on the event.
This was the first of many trade and investment activities of AmCham Sri Lanka, lined up for this year. “Focusing on the chamber’s key objective of promoting Sri Lanka as a regional hub for business, AmCham will continue to carry out trade and investment activities, in light of the country’s positive business climate,” said Rathnayake.
