Ameresekere at International Conference on Government Finance

Professional consultant Nihal Sri Ameresekere, a public interest and good governance activist, recently participated at the Board Meeting of the International Consortium on Governmental Financial Management (ICGFM) held in Miami, and also the ICGFM Annual Conference.
ICGFM is an international organisation focusing upon and bringing together, those involved in the management of finances of Governments. ICGFM Board comprises, among others, the US Government Accountability Office, Association of Government Accountants, Institute of Internal Auditors, USAID, Inter-American Development Bank, Controller General of Accounts and Auditor General, India, and other professional consulting companies and individuals advising Governments on financial management and related areas.
Ameresekere, a Member of the Board of Directors of ICGFM and one of its very senior members since 1989, has stated that a wealth of knowledge and experience has been gained over the years, having been exposed to issues faced and experiences disclosed, discussed and dealt with at the ICGFM Conferences, by those in charge of the management of government finances in several different countries in the world, and the exposures and analytical evaluations thereon by international agencies, such as, IMF, World Bank, USAID, regional agencies, professional bodies, and professional experts in the field.
During his visit to the US, Ameresekere also had been interviewed by Beatrice Edwards, Managing Director of the Governmental Accountability Project, Washington, DC, the biggest whistleblower organisation in the US, who have successfully defended whistleblower, Thomas Drake of the US National Security Agency, who had been charged, and is now defending whistleblower, Edward Snowden, formerly of the CIA, who has sought refuge in Russia. Ameresekere had been interviewed on subjects of the global menace of combatting fraud and corruption, the enforcement of the rule of law, judiciary and good governance, and on the impeachment of the former Chief Justice, which he had justified on grounds of judicial misconduct.
