American Center in Colombo hosts seminar on labor rights in garment industry

The American Center in Colombo will host a public presentation on labor rights in the garment industry conducted by an expert in the field of labor rights.

The seminar on ‘Labor Rights in the Garment Industry: Getting Government - Industry to Work Together’ will be presented by Dr. Sanchita Saxena, on Monday, 3 August at 5.00 p.m. at the American Center Auditorium at No. 44, Galle Road, Colombo 3.

Dr. Saxena, author of ‘Made in Bangladesh, Cambodia and Sri Lanka’, will talk about what can be learned about progress and ongoing challenges for labor rights in the garment industry and share her research on the subject.

Dr. Saxena is the executive director of the Institute for South Asia Studies (ISAS) at the University of California at Berkeley and the director of the Chowdhury Center for Bangladesh Studies under the ISAS. Prior to joining ISAS, she was the assistant director of Economic Programs at the Asia Foundation. She has also served as a consultant to the Asia Foundation on various economic projects and was a Public Policy Fellow at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars in Washington D.C. in 2010 and 2014. Dr. Saxena holds a PhD in political science from UCLA. The lecture is free to the public on a first-come-first-serve basis.
