Amunugama holds talks with Iranian Finance Minister

Senior Minister for International Monetary Co-operation and Deputy Minister of Finance and Planning Dr. Sarath Amunugama met the Iran Finance and Economic Minister in Washington during the IMF/WB Annual Meeting 2013.

Minister Amunugama discussed the finance assistance for the implementation of the Umaoya Irrigation and Power Project at this meeting. The long-outstanding financial assistance agreed by the Iranian Government has been hampered due to the trade embargo enforced by USA Government to Iran. The Iranian Finance Minister informed Minister Amunugama that the new Iranian President expects to discuss with the USA Government to lift the trade embargo enforced to Iran in order to facilitate trade with the international community.
